Sponge Hit and Run
a water game
The Sponge Hit and Run will have your friends pitted against each other! One side is armed with sponges and the other has many obstacles to hide behind in their quest to cross the finish line dry. Can your friends handle the challenge?Things you’ll need
- At least 6 obstacles that are big enough to hide behind (table, wheelbarrow, car, etc)
- 10-20 small sponges (you could also use water balloons but they require more clean up)
- 2 buckets to hold the sponges
- 50 yards of space
- Start and finish line markers
- 2 Bombers (players that will throw the sponges)
- Runners (players trying to get through the course)
Setting Up the Game
Set up a start and a finish line about 50 yards apart. Place your obstacles in a zig-zag pattern about every 10 yards apart between the start and finish line.The first bomber should set up in the middle of the course at the half-way point. The second bomber should set up in the middle of the course at the finish line. The runner should line up at the start line.
Playing the Game
The goal is for the runner to get to the finish line dry by going from obstacle to obstacle!The bombers are there to not let that happen by throwing sponges at the runner. The first bomber is only allowed to hit the runner until the runner has passed them. The second bomber can hit the runner at any time.
For each obstacle the runner makes it to dry, they receive a point. They must touch the obstacle to win the point.
As soon as the runner is hit, he’s out.
If the runner makes it to the finish line dry, they get a bonus point.
The player with the most points wins! If you end up with a tie, have the tied players go through the course again until the tie is broken.
