Spiked Watermelon
Spiked Watermelon makes a tasty, refreshing, great party drink! Yet few people seem to know how to spike a watermelon so here you go!
Things You’ll Need
- Fifth of booze
- Watermelon, 10 lbs or larger
- Long skewer
Spike a Watermelon

First decide on your booze. Most people use straight vodka. However, I’ve heard that citrus-flavored vodka, bourbon or rum works well also. If you want to get fancy, make mint-lemon vodka watermelon. All you do is take 1/4 cup sugar and dissolve it the juice from 2 lemons. Pour out some vodka from your fifth and add the sugar-lemon water and 2 fresh mint sprigs. Simple and yummy!
Next, get yourself a watermelon. Cut a small hole in the watermelon, just big enough for the neck of the bottle of liquor and about 3 inches deep so that your bottle will stick in there. If you’re having trouble getting the little piece out, try using a corkscrew. If you want to serve the watermelon without the bottle sticking out, keep the rind and put it back in after the booze has settled in.
Now, using a small spoon, dig out the 3 inches to make some room for the booze.
Next is a little trick I love. Use a long skewer and poke a few holes into the watermelon in various places and at various angles. This creates little channels in the watermelon so the booze filters out. Don’t poke the skewer all the way through because that will just cause the tasty juice to leak out and we don’t want that!
Now put the neck of your booze bottle in the hole and stick it in a cold place to chill.
Leave the bottle there until all of the booze is in the melon. This will take a couple of hours.
Now it’s time to cut the melon and serve it up! I prefer to leave the bottle in the melon but if you want, you can replace the bottle with the rind you cut out earlier. Also, cut the melon in a roasting pan to keep all the juices to drink!
