Crossing the River Relay

a pool party game

The Crossing the River Relay sounds so simple and sweet. Until you reach the middle of the river and the other team is trying to push you off your raft!

Things you’ll need

• Swimming Pool
• 2 Ropes the length of the pool
• 2 Rafts
• 2 Teams

Setting Up the Game

Tie the two ropes down the across the length of the pool. Tying down both sides makes the game easier but I prefer to tie down just one side so it’s harder because the rope will fall down and the player will have to go get it.

Divide your group into two teams. Have 1/2 of each team line up on opposite sides of the pool by the ropes. So, if each team has 10 members, 5 should be on one side and 5 on the other. If there is an uneven number, the extra person should be on the same side as the person that is starting the relay.

Playing the Game

On ‘GO’, the first team member must get on the raft and pull the raft to the other side using the rope. If they fall off the raft, that player must restart where they started. Once they reach the other side, they tag their team member and then that team member gets on the raft and goes to the other side.

Players are allowed to try to push each other off as they pass each other in any way they can find!

The first team to finish wins!
