Classic Gin Martini Recipe

Classic Gin Martini
There are hundreds of martini variations but this is the classic gin martini recipe. Since there are so few ingredients, be sure to use the most quality ingredients you can find for the best flavor.

Did you know that the Martini was created in the good ol’ USA? H. L. Mencken once called the martini "the only American invention as perfect as the sonnet".

Ingredients

  • 3 oz of freezing gin (Bombay Sapphire or Tanqueray 10 are my favs)
  • 2 drops of dry vermouth
  • 1 small twist of lemon rind
  • 1 Picholine olives (optional)

Directions

Fill a cocktail shaker about 3/4 full of ice.

Pour your gin into the shaker and let stand without the lid on for sixty seconds. Set a timer if you need to. This gives the gin time to chill properly.

Add the lid and shake, shake, shake. About fifteen, vigorous, diagonal shakes should do the trick.Put that shaker down and get two very well chilled martini glasses from the fridge or freezer. Allow the shaker to rest for about another sixty seconds.

Into each glass drop two drops of vermouth.

Add a twist and an olive to your glass. The olive is optional - though most people love them.

Strain your very chilly gin into each glass.

The following measurements are equal:
1 oz = 30ml = 1 tot = 1 shot = 3cl
